Congratulations if you are newly engaged and beginning your journey to planning one of the biggest days of your life. Whether you have opted for the traditional wedding or a small intimate wedding, planning during a global pandemic is not easy! Below I have listed out my ‘top 10 tips’ in order to help aid you both getting down to business and having the Wedding day of your dreams!
1. START EARLY
This I cannot stress enough! January and February are always the busiest booking times for vendors within the wedding industry therefore you need to be on the ball. This week alone, I have had to turn away countless Brides wanting to book for their Bridal makeup. It pains me to turn anyone away, however the impact of Covid 19 during 2020 has been massive. Most 2020 couples have had to reschedule their wedding meaning little capacity for any wedding vendor during 2021 and 2022. Remember key dates such as Saturdays in Summer and Bank holidays are always the first to go. So, get on it, and nail down exactly who you want now!
2. ENJOY IT
With the stress of planning, it can sometimes be easy to lose the enjoyment. Make sure to relax and enjoy those key days out like wedding dress shopping with your Bridal party. Make a day of it and go for lunch to celebrate saying ‘yes’ to the dress! Enjoy being the centre of attention and enjoy being pampered at your Bridal hair and make-up trials. I’ve been known to open a bottle of Prosecco for Bridal parties coming in for trial and it’s been so much fun!
3. BE ORGANISED
Staying on top of things will mean less stress! Invest in a Wedding Planner notebook or use spreadsheets. This way everything can stay together in one place. From vendor details to deposit/balances/contracts, you will not lose your mind looking for everything. This also gives you the added advantage of giving yourself plenty of time to tackle your ‘to do lists’. I highly recommend The Ultimate Wedding Planning Guide Book it’s one of Ireland’s most comprehensive wedding planning guides created by Irish Wedding Blog.
4. HAVE A BUDGET
It’s easy to get caught up in all the ‘wedding inspiration’ on Social Media. However, unless you have the bank balance of a celebrity A lister then it is important to be realistic. The last thing you need is to begin married life with lots of debt! Be sensible and prioritise what aspects of the wedding are important to you both and take it from there. Equally, do not underestimate the cost of a vendor or service because you think ‘you can get it for cheap’. This will only make the whole process harder on you later.
5. RESEARCH YOUR VENDORS BEFORE BOOKING
It is so important to make sure your wedding vendor fits with your wedding theme and style. Begin by viewing their work on their social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram including reading their reviews. Previous Brides are one of the most valuable sources of information. They will tell it like it is, which is especially helpful if they did not have a wonderful experience. If you have started working with another vendor you trust don’t be afraid to also ask them for recommendations. They should know who is ‘worth their salt’ when it comes to their craft!
6. DON’T FORGET WHAT’S IMPORTANT
Wedding planning can be stressful but if you find yourself getting too caught up in it all, take a step back and remind yourself what your wedding is really about – marrying the love of your life!
7. DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE GROOM
Work as a team with your other half. Don’t try to do all the planning/emailing yourself. Take time to both sit down together and talk about the things as a couple you both like and want. The better weddings are always the ones that showcase the couple’s personality.
8. GET WEDDING INSURANCE
The unforeseen events of 2020 aka Corona have demonstrated the importance of securing wedding insurance for your special day. Having to think about what could go wrong on your wedding day does not sound like much fun but it is essential to take the necessary steps to cover yourself for every eventuality.
9. DON’T GET CAUGHT UP IN PERFECTION
The answer to this is simple; complete and utter perfection does not exist. With this in mind, your planning will go so much smoother as you won’t spend time stressing whether every single floral arrangement is perfectly symmetrical. Some of the best moments are some of the ones we didn’t plan at all, so embrace the unexpected.
10. RELAX BEFORE THE BIG DAY
All the planning is done so use the day before to enjoy all the pampering before the big day! Spend the day with your Bridal party having your nails and spray tan done whilst sipping on Prosecco and having fun! Enjoy your last day as a Miss as before you know it you will be walking up that aisle to say, ‘I Do’.
